Marie-Joseph-Paul-Yves-Roch-Gilbert du Motier, Lafayette was involved in both French and American revolution. He was a very close friend of George Washington (even named his son George Washington-Lafayette). Yeah, there are a lot of cities/places named Lafayette, La Fayette or Fayette.

The old folks in Southern Louisiana still speak French, but new generation are typical Americans, ever heard of someone called Britney Spears? :D
