1460 days of blogging

Regardless of what the vision might have been, killing time was the major objective behind the creation of this blog (On the Journey); it amazes me that I have continued on with this journey for four years.  I just gave myself a pat on the back (as I wrote this) :P

Looking at all my posts, over these four years period, it seems that they mostly comprises of pictures (or other media), opinion or ramblings on personal or everyday stuffs, and some intermittent flashes of creativity. The “flashes of creativity” are harder to come by to me nowadays, and the first two are consistently being engulfed under the ever-growing domain of Facebook revolution; no wonder my blog has witnessed increased drought of posts in the past couple of years

Moving into the fifth year, I can’t make any assurance but a mere commitment to at least stay afloat. I may not be regular with my posts, but will definitely keep dropping by, just like I did today when I realized it’s my blog’s fourth birthday

Thanks y’all for your continued support :D

Niagara Falls

Following are the few pictures that I took in my recent trip to Niagara Falls. The fall is impressive, but the infrastructures set up for the tourism are even more impressive. The North Americans really know how to make most out of their natural wonders.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I noticed that every other tourists there was a Desi (South Asian). For a moment I thought I was inside the Engineering building of my University (or most of the American Universities) :D

The Desi’s also seem to have strategically built restaurants and hotels around the Falls. The lines in Desi Fast food/buffet or the wait time in Desi restaurants was insanely long. I guess those customers eating in non-Desi place either must have specifically desired non-Desi food, or they were simply sick of long lines and wait times :)

What to do in Baltimore?

It’s been a little more than a year that I moved to Baltimore, and I still struggle to chaperon my visitors for the city and it’s vicinities tour. If someone is in Baltimore area for a very short visit, then it’s a piece of cake, I take them to the Inner Harbor. The Inner Harbor has it all; the aquarium, the science center, lot’s of chain restaurants, boat rides, and tons of other potential spots and scenes to capture for their Facebook :D There is also Fort McHenry close by to wrap up the combo Harbor trip.

If it’s slightly longer than a day visit, then it spells trouble for me. Not all want to go to the zoo, not all want to go for a hike in the trails, and going to a museum is an absolute no. Interests and time limits (enough for the harbor visit, but not for hours of hike) makes the above choices more difficult. I don’t know if its because that Nepal is blessed with so many natural wonders, we Nepalese want to see more physical structures. For any natural phenomenon to catch our attention, it has to be of a big magnitude, like Niagara Falls or Grand Canyon. Washington DC (less than an hour drive to my west) is always there to bail me out, but after multiple visits through the same routes has made it a very dull place for me. Even when it is extremely fascinating for the new visitors, I only go there if I am made to :P Read the rest of this entry »

1095 days of blogging

I have slowed down, limped, and even crawled; but I still vow to continue blogging.  Today, ‘On the journey’ celebrated it’s third birthday, and it hopes for the same continued support and love from all the readers, well wishers, and critics towards its future march.

Thanks,

Prajwol

Social Safety Nets

My previous post was not about detest to taxation, it was more on the inept pricing of DVD  rentals in that particular public library. I believe that proper functioning of a society requires certain social safety nets, for that you need taxation. But don’t get me wrong, I am strongly against ‘taxation of people to death’ by their government. Taxation definitely is required, but getting an appropriate and effective taxation scheme is more of a challenge.

Today morning, while driving to work, my car spun off the ramp and the engine shut off after hitting the curb. My car was facing straight to incoming ‘office time’ traffic, eager to get off the ramp. There was a high probability that some vehicle would definitely crash into mine on the ramp (while hurrying to get to their work). I dialed 911 and a State Trooper got their in two minutes to slow down the incoming traffic from the ramp. A County Police Car got their in five minutes, giving way to the State Trooper. The County Police stayed there till the towing company towed my car away.

If there was no taxation then there won’t be anything called Police, or any other social safety nets. I doubt anyone would have stopped their vehicle in safe (visible) place and help slow down the incoming traffic. So as long as my tax money is spent wisely, I don’t mind contributing. And if you expect similar help (god forbid if something like that happen), then it would be foolish to decry taxation.

Thank god, I and my car got away without any major incident. God is great.

Cherry Blossom

My first ever Cherry Blossom in Washington, DC. Instead of rambling about it, I decided to let the pictures talk for themselves, check out some of the pictures I took of the area.

These plants were imported from Japan and have a certain window for the bloom. If you don’t catch it, then you will have to wait till next year. Click on this link for general information on Cherry Blossom festival in DC.
